Desert Expedition · Marrakech
A shared day trip leaves Marrakech at 7:00 AM for Casablanca: the Sacred Heart Cathedral, a guided visit inside the Hassan II Mosque and the Ain Diab seafront, back the same night. Pick it if you have one free day: Chefchaouen is too far, the Hassan II Mosque is not.

Desert Expedition runs this as a 12-hour day. Group guests meet at a central Marrakech meeting point at 7:00 AM; private bookings get a hotel or riad pickup. Guests report about two and a half hours each way on the motorway. In Casablanca the stops are the Sacred Heart Cathedral (half an hour), the Hassan II Mosque (an hour), time in the city and the Ain Diab seafront.
The mosque is why you go. Finished in 1993, it has a 210 m minaret and stands over the Atlantic. Non-Muslims can only go in on a guided visit, and the ticket isn't included: the listing says €14, the mosque foundation's visit page says 140 dirhams for foreign adults. One guest notes you can pay by cash or card. The cathedral, an Art Deco church completed in 1930, stopped being a church in 1956 and is now a cultural centre.
It's a long day, and guests say so. Lunch is extra, at a restaurant the guide picks (one guest found it reasonably priced and good). Our Hassan II Mosque guide has the visiting times; on Fridays and in Ramadan there are fewer slots.
Meet at the central Marrakech meeting point (or hotel pickup on a private booking). About 2.5 hours north on the motorway.
A stop at the former cathedral, completed in 1930.
The guided visit inside, if you buy the ticket, or the esplanade and the sea wall.
Time in central Casablanca; lunch is optional and extra.
The seafront corniche, then the drive back to Marrakech for the evening.
★★★★★Tour as described and didn't disappoint. Tour bus is fantastic, comfortable seats and air conditioned. Lunch, although you don't pick where to eat, was reasonably priced and delicious too. Pick ups were on time and time spent in each place was good.
★★★★★Long day but well organised. Lovely to escape the mayhem of Marrakech for the day and be by the sea. The mosque visit was amazing.
★★★★★Private tour, just my sister and me in a lovely comfortable car which was great as the trip takes about 2hr 30m each way. [...] We went to Hassan Mosque, beautiful and so big.
★★★★★A wonderful day out with khalid. A very smooth day and each stop explained and enough time given to explore. Highly recommend this.
